Nüton's Hands-on Cook-off Empowers Kids to Advocate for Family Meals

The first Annual Hands-on Cook-off Contest rallies the support of kids across Manitoba to become advocates for cooking and eating together - in their own homes.

WINNIPEG, March 21, 2017 - Nüton is excited to present the second annual Better Together Hands-on Cook-off Contest today with the support of children, teachers, parents, and local celebrities across Manitoba, passionate about the benefits of cooking and eating together.

Hands-on Cook-Off is a video contest that brings together food and fun by having two generations or two youth demonstrate how to prepare a recipe.

This year’s panel of judges are:

  • Dez Daniels of 94.3 The Drive
  • Drew Mindell of The Illegal Curve Hockey Show
  • Ezra Ginsburg of The Illegal Curve Hockey Show
  • Pat Bugera Krawchuk, registered dietitian at Dairy Farmers of Manitoba.

"The Hands-on Cook-off Contest is a fun way to remind families about the benefits of cooking and eating together," Pat Bugera Krawchuk, RD, nutrition programs manager at Dairy Farmers of Manitoba, says. “With our invitation to youth participants, via schools across the province, we hope to empower kids to take an active role in the kitchen.”

The Hands-on Cook-off Contest was born from research that shows when families cook and eat together, kids gain many valuable benefits - including better grades in school, better health, improved mental health, and better overall social adaptability. Recent studies indicate that setting aside time to be unplugged during mealtimes - to turn off media like TV, phones, and devices - is important.
