Fourth Annual Hands-on Cook-off Reaches Kids with a Powerful Message!

We are super excited to announce that this year’s Hands-on Cook-off Contest, happening through the month of May, will reach out to high school kids across BC with a powerful message. That is, kids who cook make healthier food choices and do better in school.

That’s right. Research shows that kids who cook not only make healthier choices, they also enjoy improved social skills and better school performance. Check out these studies at Science Daily and these UK studies listed on BBC World News.

Cooking together offers many benefits to everyone from grandparents to tots.  We feel it’s one of the most enjoyable and simple ways to profoundly enrich your life. Our annual Hands-on Cook-off contest is a fun way to remind people of just that, and we invite YOU to enter!

Here’s how to enter!

Contest submissions can be made by any BC resident anytime through the month of May. Simply grab a friend or relative and create a home video cooking show, featuring your favourite recipe. There are two entry categories this year. To enter the Multigenerational category, at least two generations must be involved in the making of the video. To enter the Youth category, at least two youth aged 18 and under must be involved in the making of the video. Videos must include two or more people cooking together and be no longer than three minutes.  There are no tech skills required—videos can even be made using phone video cameras. Full contest details, including sample videos, judging criteria and prizes, are posted on the contest site
